I Have Arrived

Wed Sep 19, 2007, 6:06 PM
I have finally gotten myself I Dev account. I've been looking at pictures and watching galleries of wonderfully talented people, but I myself have not gotten my own account until now, due to the fact that I cannot draw.-_-

If anyone is actually reading this, I'm sure they're wondering, 'Then why the hell did you make an account?'
Two reasons. The first is that I need somewhere more convenient than my computer's Favorites to keep links to my favorite artists, and second, is that I make avatars, mainly out of boredom, or because I feel a character needs more love. They aren't great, but they make me happy, so good enough.

Anywho, not much to say about me. I am highly obsessed with lots of animes, especially Bleach, and roleplaying. I actually co-own a lovely forum with a friend. I am rather sarcastic at times, I change my moods often for no apparent reason, and that is about it.

  • Mood: Neutral
  • Reading: The Minds of Billy Milligan
  • Watching: Random animes and fanflashes

I love your work, you do some amazing wigs.
I was at your wig panel this last Kumoricon, and it really helped me a lot, although I lost the pamphlet, which is a shame. I'm actually planning to style my first wig soon, for a Gary Oak cosplay for next Kumoricon.

Do you have any suggestions for what to use to make spikes that don't stick out? The hair needs to be separated like a spike, but it doesn't need to stand out, so I don't want to try my luck with hairspray if there's an easier way.

Really?! Awww... I'm glad you found the wig panel helpful. That makes me feel all warm and squishy inside. I would love feed back of what you thought I did well, what I could improve upon, and what other things you would like to hear me talk about. I will say now that yes I know time was an issue. When I do it again, I plan on splitting it up into panels... a beginners and an advanced. But... any feed back you have would be fantastic and will greatly help my improve for next time. :D

So now to your real question. Send me a reference picture and I will take a look. I'm sure it will be really easy but this way I can at least see what you are talking about.

Yes, it will definitely be even better once it's split into two panels. Personally, I was really interested in the razoring techniques. I got my own razor, and I keep meaning to start experimenting with it, but I haven't yet. I just don't want to ruin my wig. I think watching you demonstrate different techniques for styling and making spikes was the best part, since it really gave me a good idea of what to try. You made it look so easy though.xD

The reference pictures I found, since not many people have done Gary Oak cosplays I like, aren't great, but here: [link]
I particularly like the ones on the third row from the top, and the other, less spiky ones.

Yay! I'm glad I made things not so scary for you when it came to wig styling. And I made it look easy because it is easy! With practice you can be just as good as I am. When I do the panels next time, I want to try and have a better plan set up for demonstrations because I think people would appreciate that a lot.

:giggle: I actually meant like pictures of the character, not cosplay pictures. Looking at the drawing will help me determine exactly what type of spikes you need and how to possibly make them. Everyone has their own interpretation, so the cosplay ones dont help me that much. :D
